During the initial designing stages, we often love focussing on one key piece and using its colours, look and feel as a starting point for inspiration. For this contemporary apartment, we were inspired by the red and beige colours of the carpet, one of Melissa Wyndham's designs. Since the carpet was so inspirational and such a central focus, we were careful not to detract from its design but felt the need to add some contemporary design elements. We therefore chose a contemporary Carew-Jones perspex coffee table for the drawing room which highlights the carpet beneath while still remaining modern and stylish.
We also wanted to highlight the client's own collection of artworks. The contemporary and fresh feeling of the space provided a stunning setting for these unique artworks, giving them their own space.
In typical Devas Designs style we kept the decoration simple, elegant and fresh and used plain colours for the interior, interspersed with coloured and patterned cushions. The white linen curtains and plain nickel curtain poles convey a sense of contemporary glamour. Muslin blinds were added to screen the windows and retain light at the same time. The beautifully elegant armchair is by William Yeoward and provides the perfect space for reading and relaxing.
